Abortion. We’re talking all about it in this episode. We dive into the history of Christianity and abortion and how that showed up in our church upbringings. We discuss the state of abortion access today and how abortion fits within the broader framework of reproductive justice. And, we talk about how we are Christians who support abortion and why we need to talk about it more.
What We’re Reading and Listening to
Ashley gives two thumbs up for Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng. If you’re looking for a lighter summer read, you might consider picking up this one. The setting is suburban Ohio in a town called Shaker Heights, which is a real place where the author grew up. It’s soon to be made into a movie featuring Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington.
If you’re looking for more great podcasts about reproductive issues, Katey recommends you check out the rePROs Fight Back podcast, hosted by Jennie Wetter. Every episode features leaders who are working on frontlines of the fight for sexual and reproductive health and rights. Recent guests have included Yamani Hernandez, Executive Director of the National Network of Abortion Funds (NNAF), Imani Gandy, Senior Legal Analyst with Rewire.news and host of the Boom! Lawyered Podcast, and Katey herself was a guest on a recent episode.
Kindreds of the Moment
We’re celebrating the US Women’s Soccer Team that won their 4th World Cup! They’re also fighting for equal pay with the men’s team (who has never won a World Cup, we might add.) If you don’t follow sports or soccer, here’s a great article about team captain Megan Rapinoe and her amazing power pose.
