Katey’s Pick
On Kindreds Picks, we discuss some of our favorite recommendations that we didn’t have time to get to in our regular episode.
Book: The Universal Christ by Richard Rohr. This is a book to be savored and meditated on because it is so profound. Example: this quote.
“What if Christ is a name for the transcendent within of every “thing” in the universe? What if Christ is a name for the immense spaciousness of all true Love? What if Christ refers to an infinite horizon that pulls us from within and pulls us forward too? What if Christ is another name for everything—in its fullness?”
Richard Rohr, The Universal Christ
Katey appreciates his definition of what it means to be Christian: “The proof that you are a Christian is that you can see Christ everywhere else.” We love that.

Website: MommaStrong
It’s NOT about weight loss, or about making your body smaller. There is never talk of “bikini body” or “love handles.” MommaStrong is an online fitness program engineered to teach you about your body and how to gain strength from the inside out, and it works to bring the right workout to you at the right time. It recognizes that everyone has unique needs every day throughout motherhood. There are programs for pregnant women, the hazy days of new motherhood, and new moms, all tailored to the specifics of what your body needs at those times. There’s even a video specifically tailored for women who have experienced a pregnancy loss or infertility. All videos are 15 minutes and focus on building strength and flexibility over time. For days that 15 minutes is too much, there are even 5 minute hacks.
Courtney Wyckoff is the founder and makes all the videos, and she’s a personal trainer with experience in injury prevention/treatment. She’s also knowledgeable in pelvic floor physical therapy and incorporates those elements into her videos as well. She’s all about honoring your body where it is and using what you have, so canned foods instead of hand weights, a sports bra for a fitness band. Just showing up for yourself is a big theme of the website.
